Write4Gold by Vanessa York

We are learning to use visual features to support understanding of the text.

Why is the title of the article ‘Write4Gold’?
To link in the reader to consider the meanings of graffiti art.
Is this graffiti illegal?
Sometimes it is and sometimes it isn’t but only because of the dirty type of art on the wall from gangsters but in other words people can be very thoughtful into putting their effort in their art.
Can graffiti be considered art?
Yes sometimes it can and sometimes it can’t therefore graffiti can be used out to tell a story or just to do it for bad fun.
What is your opinion of graffiti?
I think that graffiti is a great type of art but it is not good to do graffiti on other people’s property or something that other people own.
What is the main message of this poem about graffiti?
The main message of this poem is to tell the stories behind the art of graffiti and what inspiring stories it has to tell.
How did the authors of the poem and article feel about graffiti?

The authors of the poem were feeling very inspired by this sort of art-why? Because the people are upset because of our world corrupting into a very sad dangerous place. So they have graffiti to tell what they want the world to be.

How are humans polluting the environment?

We are learning to use words and phrases that are appropriate to the topic.

People are polluting the area by building factories that release’s smoke into the air, and even cows are pollute the air from when they fart, it pollutes the air. it is called carbon dioxide. Most of this air pollution we cause results from the burning of fossil fuels, such as coal, oil, natural gas, and gasoline to produce electricity and power our vehicles. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a good indicator of how much fossil fuel is burned and how much of other pollutants are emitted as a result.

  Water pollution:
Most of the water pollution we cause is from the rubbish that we through into the water, rivers, streams, oceans and the seweges. When all of this rubbish leads out to where all of the sea creatures are they will get really sick and if we keep on doing this for a long time eventually some of these sea creatures will be extinct.

  Earth pollution:
People are causing Earth pollution by cutting down trees, and by those people whom are doing that are making less oxygen for us other humans, that aren’t cutting down trees. If people keep doing this there will be less and less oxygen for us to breath in and the animals that live in trees will no longer have anywhere to live.

My Japanese Recipe

Japanese Dish for Pak n Save

Your task is to create a new product for Pak n Save based upon traditional Japanese food. Have a look online for some ideas and identify a dish that you think would be popular in New Zealand.

How is it made?
  1. Adjust an oven rack to the middle position and preheat the oven to 400F (200C). Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Combine the panko and oil in a frying pan and toast over medium heat until golden brown. Transfer panko into a shallow dish and allow to cool.
  3. Get rid of the extra fat and make a couple of slits on the connective tissue between the meat and fat. The reason why you do this is that red meat and fat have different elasticity, and when they are cooked they will shrink and expand at different rates. This will allow Tonkatsu to stay nice and flat and prevent Tonkatsu from curling up.
  5. Sprinkle salt and freshly ground black pepper.
  6. Dredge each pork piece in the flour to coat completely and pat off the excess flour. Then dip into the beaten egg and finally coat with the toasted panko. Press on the panko flakes to make sure they adhere to the pork.
  7. Place the pork on the prepared baking sheet or even better if you have an oven-safe wire rack (as air goes through on the bottom so panko won't get crushed). Bake until the pork is no longer pink inside, about 20 minutes.
  8. Cut Tonkatsu into 1 inch pieces (so you can eat with chopsticks) by pressing the knife directly down instead of moving back and forth. This way the panko will not come off. Transfer to a plate and serve immediately.
  9. To make special sesame Tonkatsu sauce, grind black and white sesame seeds in a mortar and add Tonkatsu sauce. Mix all together.
What ingredients would it need?
  • 1 tbsp of olive oil,
  • 1 tbsp of flour
  • 1 tsp of salt
  • 1 egg
  • freshly ground black pepper
  • ¾ of a cup panko (Japanese breadcrumbs)
  • ½ 1b pork loin (½ inch/1.2 cm thickness)
            Sause
  • 1 tbsp of ketchup
  • 2 ½ tsp of Worcestershire sauce (or Usutah So-su)
  • 1 ½ tsp of oyster sauce
  • 1 ⅛ of a tsp of sugar

What is the name of your recipe?
How expensive do you think your recipe would be?
I think that this recipe would be about $28

Why does this recipe fit the brief?
It is not expensive, it is easy to make, it is quick to prepare

What is the background of your recipe?
This is what my recipe would look like when you are finished making it.

Vocabulary

Word
Meaning
Use in a sentence
Renewable
A natural resource or source of energy.
Renewable resources provide only about 30 percent of
Hydroelectric
Hydroelectric is when turbines underwater is used to make energy/electricity by using the force and strength of the water in the dam.
Water Turbines are used in the process of Hydroelectric.
Reactor
Reactor is a type of machine that helps reproduce resources for example Nuclear Reactors repulse energy into resources...
A nuclear reactor uses a reactor for the machine.

What is Solar energy?

Pros (positive things about it)
Cons (negative things about it)
It is free to use the sun, for it is out everyday.
Sunlight is not available all the time, for the days are halved with night time where there is no sun but the moon.

What is Tidal energy?

Pros
Cons
It is a clean energy source because, unlike the burning of fossil fuels, it does not release greenhouse gases or other pollutants into the air.
Expensive to build, Very location specific (only 20 sites identified with high potential), Non-continuous, storage or grid-backup required.

What is Hydroelectric energy?

Pros
Cons
It on requires moving water in order to work. It is considered to be green source of energy. It does not pollute itself. Only the construction of the power plants can be potential sources of energy..
There are numerous environmental consequences of damming water, flooding entire areas, creating massive reservoirs, changing water flow, blocking the natural course of rivers, and constructing power lines and roads.

What is Nuclear energy?

Pros
Cons
Nuclear power also has a lot fewer greenhouse emissions. It has been determined that the amount of greenhouse gases have decreased by almost half because of the prevalence in the utilization of nuclear power. Nuclear energy has the least effect on nature since it doesn’t discharge any gasses like methane and carbon dioxide, which are the primary “greenhouse gasses.
One of the biggest issues is environmental impact in relation to uranium. The process of mining and refining uranium hasn’t been a clean process. Actually transporting nuclear fuel to and from plants represents a pollution hazard. Also, once the fuel is used, you can’t simply take it to the landfill – it’s radioactive and dangerous.
